I remember once listening to my brilliant older cousin (your husband, Botanyhead) debating with our atheist grandfather on the subject of abortion. Our grandfather (who was later saved, but that’s a different story) was adamant that we needed abortion to be “safe, legal, and easily available” because, among other things, the world is overpopulated. My cousin, tongue firmly in cheek, said with a big grin, “And the answer is, machine guns!”
In It’s All About the Money (and Greed, and Selfishness) my favorite Israeli blogger, the delightful Mrs. Anna T. of Domestic Felicity, takes on overpopulation and the vast consumption inherent in the whole argument. She even fleshes out the machine gun idea. (And while you’re reading her great post, join me in being seriously impressed when you realize that English is this young woman’s third language.)

I visit Anna’s site, too, and appreciated her thoughts in that post. I did not know that english was a third language, though. I am impressed!

Praise the Lord for: our country that still does not seem to interfere with the size of our families AND our Lord who created us with a desire to have them and raise them for him AND our husbands who graciously go to work and provide for these big families! There’s enough people who really do not want children that I can’t imagine ever (realistically) having an overpopulation problem.

The overpopulation argument makes me crazy! I remember reading in a book (I think “Be Fruitful and Multiply”?) that the entire world population could fit in the state of Texas with each person having around 2,000 sq. ft a piece. Now how is it again that the world is overpopulated? It is just another lie that the enemy would have us believe so that we do not birth more children for the Lords army!

I remember, as a senior in high-school, hearing the overpopulation arguments. . . It sounded so convincing then. Oh, how they attempt to indoctrinate our youth. Peace, truth and freedom are thankfully found in our Lord and through His Word.
Anna’s post was terrific. Thanks for sharing!
